Initial Operation of the Maryland Coaxial Gyroklystron Experiment

چکیده
We describe results from the initial operation of our coaxial gyroklystron experiment, which is being evaluated as a potential driver for future linear colliders. The interaction is designed to occur between a 500 kV, 500 700 A beam and a series of coaxial TE0n1 microwave cavities. Output powers in excess of 100 MW at 8.568 GHz are expected with an efficiency of about 40% [1]. We detail performance of our single anode magnetron injection gun in addition to the stability and amplification properties of our preliminary microwave circuit. We also discuss our designs of near-term future tubes which are expected to have comparable performance at 17.136 GHz.

Estimation of the Electronic Efficiency of a Gyroklystron Amplifier
In the present paper, a generalized self-consistent single mode linear analysis of gyroklystron has been presented. The analysis has been used to estimate and optimize the electronic efficiency of the gyroklystron device. The efficiency contours, necessary for the preliminary design of a gyroklystron, have been drawn by solving the coupled equations using Runga-Kutta method for the various devi...

* Work supported by the US Department of Energy. In this paper we consider the preliminary designs of three-cavity microwave circuits for coaxial gyroklystrons. These tubes are predicted to produce over 100 MW of power in 1 μs pulses in Xand Ku-Band for linear collider applications with efficiencies exceeding 40% and gains above 50 dB. In particular, we examine the effect of first and second ha...

A four cavity W-band gyroklystron amplifier experiment is currently underway at the Naval Research Laboratory. The gyroklystron has produced 67 kW peak output power and 28% efficiency in the TE011 mode with a 55 kV, 4.3 A annular electron beam. The full width half maximum (FWHM) bandwidth is greater than 460 MHz. Small signal and saturated gains of 36 dB and 29 dB, respectively, have been obser...

The self-consistent time-dependent code MAGY is presently being used for designing and modeling gyrodevices. In this paper, the code’s self-consistent capability is used to investigate three different issues relating to the operation of gyroklystron amplifiers. These are the effect of window reflection on the properties of the output waves, higher order mode excitation in nonlinear output taper...
